About Society of Women Engineers Scholarships

Introduction: the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) women in engineering scholarships and Awards were created to support women in the field of engineering studying for their bachelor or postgraduate degree programs. The Society of Women Engineers believes that the programs are the template for the women career in engineering and technology including computer science. SWE mode of application

Applicants for the SWE scholarships are expected to apply via the SWE portal. After the submission, the SWE will consider all application and winners will be chosen.

SWE classes

The SWE scholarships are classified into the sophomores and first-year students. For the sophomores, the scholarship will help through to the finish of their graduate course.
Scholarships for women are released in May for the sophomore, junior, senior and graduate applicants while scholarships are release in July for student re-entring the university and for the freshmen.

Sophomores through graduate students: February
Freshmen: May

Selection Criteria for SWE Scholarships

All SWE Scholarships and awards are only qualified for if and only if the applicants planned to attend ABET-accredited programs. Moreover, these programs must be in engineering, technology or computer related engineering courses. For the MSc or the PhD students, they must be currently enrolled in the ABET-accredited programs in areas of engineering.

Value of Scholarship.

The value of the SWE scholarship includes but not limited to $1,000 to $15,000 each. Some of the scholarships are renewable.

The SWE scholarship types

The SWE scholarship includes the reentry scholarship, non-traditional scholarships and the traditional scholarships.

The reentry SWE women in engineering scholarships

The reentry SWE scholarships were established for women to help women achieve accredited certification to re-enter the workforce.  To be qualified for the reentry SWE scholarships, candidates must be out of school for at least two years before starting another course which could be their current course/program of study.
Moreover, the women must be studying courses in the area of engineering. However, it applies to both part-time and full-time study program in ABET-accredited university and program.

The non-traditional scholarships

The non-traditional scholarship was established to help women return to the university to earn a degree in engineering. Applicants must be out of the university for at least two years. Both full time and part time are eligible for the scholarship program. All women entering any year of the engineering course or graduate engineering course are eligible. Moreover, GPA average is not considered for students applying for reentry or non-traditional scholarships.
